Mission and Goals
 

The mission of Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council is to ensure that adults and families acquire reading, writing, math, English language, workforce skills, and computer skills so they may reach their fullest potential in life and participate productively in their community.

Goals for the period 2006-2010 (from the GPLC long-range plan):

  1. Increase the number of students who receive at least 12 hours of quality literacy instruction.
  2. Raise awareness of GPLC services in the community. 
  3. Expand the base of financial support for GPLC programs, especially from private sources.
  4. Improve the involvement of Advisory Committee members in the organization.
  5. Utilize technology to improve clients’ experience with GPLC. 
  6. Be known as the leader in adult and family literacy in the Pittsburgh region.
  7. Recognize, reward, and develop our employees.
  8. Maintain the financial stability of GPLC and good nonprofit policies.
  9. Ensure the viability and diversity of GPLC leadership, including the Board of Directors.
