High School Equivalency Testing Center

Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council (GPLC)

GPLC is switching to the HiSET® high school equivalency test and began to phase it in on June 10, 2016.  GPLC will no longer offer the GED® high school equivalency test at the downtown CareerLink Center after June 28, 2016.

GPLC is offering a different state-approved high school equivalency test called HiSET®.  It is a paper-based battery of tests, similar to the GED® paper tests of the recent past.  Starting this year, the state of Pennsylvania will award the same diploma for passers of the GED® or the HiSET® tests.  GPLC is offering the HiSET high school equivalency test because it is less expensive for the test taker; it is paper-based, and it may meet the needs of more test takers.  GPLC encourages test takers to look at both options to decide which is best for their test-taking needs.  GPLC instructors still teach students to pass the GED exam though we do not offer the GED exam.  Important: Testers cannot switch between the HiSET® and the GED® tests.  All subjects must be completed using the same test.  Subject re-testing follows the same requirement.

The HiSET® tests will be offered at GPLC's Headquarters:
GPLC Downtown Center
411 Seventh Avenue, Suite 550
Pittsburgh, PA 15219
Phone:  412-393-7650
